Literacy Center Add Tutors, Gets Set for More Volunteer Training
Two more English language tutors have joined the ranks of volunteers at the McKinley Park neighborhood's Aquinas Literacy Center.
Matt McGrory and Juliet Stills completed training at the daylong winter training session at Aquinas and are now ready to start directly helping English language learners, said Sabrina Poulin, associate director at the center.
"Without the support of many volunteers, Aquinas would not be able to carry out its mission of empowering adults to learn English and become more engaged in their community," Poulin said.
More than 30 adults are still on the list to learn English, Poulin said, and Aquinas needs more volunteer trainers to help.
"Please consider becoming a volunteer English literacy tutor," Poulin said. Once trained, tutors meet one-on-one with pupils for 90 minutes per week at the center at 1751 W. 35th St., Chicago, online, or a hybrid of in-person and online video conference tutoring.
The next English Literacy Tutor Training session is set for this Saturday, March 4, 2023, at the center, Poulin said. Anyone interested in participating or getting more information should call (773) 927-0512 or send email to sabrina@aquinasliteracycenter.org.
